Olive oil is basically extracted from the fruit of the olive tree that is found in the Mediterranean region. This oil is being used in this region from the ancient times. Types of Olive Oil:

Olive oil comes in different varieties, which are as follows:

  1. Extra virgin olive oil: It is the most commonly used olive oil. Extra-virgin is produced in a natural manner, i.e. extracted direct from the olive fruit by grinding the olives in thermal condition which helps in preserving its natural taste. It means that this oil is not made with the help of any chemical treatment. Due to this, it contains high mineral and vitamin content.

  2. Pure olive oil: Unlike extra-virgin olive oil, this oil is obtained through refining process, which involves heat, chemical solvent, high pressure and filtration treatment. It is less expensive in comparison to other types of olive oils and is suitable for high heat cooking and frying, as well.

  3. Pomace olive oil: It is mainly a cooking based oil and is considered most suitable for Indian style of cooking. It has a great taste and aroma which differentiates it from its counterparts. Pomace olive oil is made after extracting paste from the olive fruit and then mixing it with extra-virgin. It is the least expensive olive oil of all, which makes it the most commonly used oil.
