OLED vs LED: Which One Is Better?

by Microtips Technology Suppliers of LCD Modules

Almost every piece of electronic equipment used in industrial and commercial applications has LEDs or OLEDs. OLED has proven itself superior to LED for many years, but it has dominated the TV market for decades since it was introduced. Also worth noting is that OLED is an upgraded version of LED, the better and more organic one. Both of these technologies are competing with each other for supremacy because of this.

This article aims to explain the differences between LED and OLED displays and to identify the factors that make OLED displays superior to LED displays. Before this, let us understand what LED and OLEDs are!

What Are LED Displays?

Flat-panel displays that use light-emitting diode (LED) technology can also be called LED displays. Thanks to the implementation of backlighting technology, these LED displays are known for their brightness. An array of light-emitting diodes is placed behind the display panel to make these LED displays. This type of light-emitting diode covers pixels and offers better illumination. You can put these types of displays outdoors as well.

What Are OLED Displays?

Organic light-emitting diodes are known as OLEDs. Alternatively, organic electroluminescent diodes can be called OLEDs. OLEDs can be produced in small sizes and are more easily produced. The fact that the small size OLEDs are plastic extrudes the possibility of making them into sheets that are large and thin.

There are many more layers in an OLED compared to its corresponding inorganic crystal layers. The conductive and emissive layers of an OLED can be multilayered. Growing and laying down so many liquid crystals is much more difficult than one might expect. When it comes to electric current, the organic compound layer emits only visible light, which is non-harmful to the human eye.

An OLED display will have the same quality as natural light since the light is organic. The superiority of OLED over LED is primarily due to this factor. Nonetheless, OLED has many other advantages compared to LED.

Let us compare OLED and LED and see the benefits OLED has over LED!

Black Level

OLED TVs are free from the black-level problems associated with traditional LED TVs. The pixels of an OLED doesn't produce any light if they lack electricity, so they are entirely black. To several people, that makes perfect sense.

Viewing Angles

LED TVs are best viewed from dead center, and their picture quality deteriorates the farther away you are from it. However, the degree of degradation differs with each model.

LED TV manufacturers use IPS LCD panels for their LED televisions, which perform slightly better off-angle than VA panels but aren't competitive with OLED due to their lower black levels.

Despite this, OLED TVs can be viewed at extreme angles - up to 84 degrees - with no luminance degradation. The viewing angle of OLED TVs is higher than most LED TVs, which have a maximum viewing angle of 54 degrees.

Energy Consumption

Unlike traditional displays, OLEDs have no backlight, and each pixel consumes minimal power. A backlight is necessary for LED TVs to produce brightness. LEDs consume more power for the same amount of brightness as OLEDs, and since their light must pass through LCD shutters before reaching your eyes, they are less energy-efficient than OLEDs.

Image Quality

Even though LED TVs have seen some improvements in recent years, OLED TVs still dominate picture quality. As well as being lighter and thinner, using less energy, and providing arguably the best viewing angle, OLEDs have come down in price considerably in the past three years. It is the leading TV technology today; it has made a lot of progress in a short time and deserves to be crowned the winner.

Summing It Up!

Your knowledge of OLED displays over LED displays has probably led you to consider purchasing OLED collections. Microtips Technology is one of the most trustworthy manufacturers to make sure you buy the best OLED modules. The company has recognized display manufacturing technology expertise since the late 1990s. One of their most prominent displays is custom-made OLED displays.
