Nutrient Agar and Nutrient Broth
by Kunal V. MicrobiologistWHAT IS NUTRIENT AGAR?
Nutrient Agar is an inexpensive medium supports the growth
of a wide range of non-fastidious organisms. It is a general purpose medium for
cultivation of microorganisms and as a useful demonstration and teaching aid.
WHAT IS NUTRIENT
BROTH?
Nutrient broth is a basis culture media designed to give
good growth from minimal inocula. It is used for maintaining microorganisms,
cultivating fastidious organisms by enriching with serum of blood and are also
used for purity checking prior to biochemical or serological testing.
USES
Both Nutrient agar and nutrient broth is used for the
cultivation and maintenance of non-fastidious organisms as well as enumeration
of organisms in water, sewage, dairy products, feces and other materials.

SIMILARITY BETWEEN
NUTRIENT AGAR AND NUTRIENT BROTH
·
Nutrient agar and nutrient broth are two types
of growth media used to cultivate microorganisms.
·
Both nutrient agar and nutrient broth are
inexpensive general purpose media
·
Both nutrient agar and nutrient broth consist of
peptic digest of animal tissue, beef extract, yeast extract, sodium chloride.
·
The pH (at 25° C) of both nutrient agar and
nutrient broth are 7.4±0.2
CONCLUSION
TMMEDIA is a manufacturer and supplier of
high quality Nutrient agar / Nutrient Broth. TMMEDIA also export the mentioned
product in affordable price.
Nutrient gar and Nutrient Broth are two
types of media with relatively simple formulation that helps to provide
necessary nutrients for the replications of large number of microorganisms.
Nutrient agar is a solid medium due to presence of 2% agar. It is used to
obtain colonies of microorganisms. Whereas, Nutrient broth lacks agar, and it
is a liquid medium. It is used to maintain stocks of microorganisms. Thus, the
main difference between nutrient agar and nutrient broth is the texture and
purpose of use.
