She has largely been out of the spotlight in recent months while working on her second studio album.

But all eyes were on Lorde at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards in New York City on Monday.

The 18-year-old went for an unusual gothic look for the evening – picking both black trousers and a matching dress.

Turning heads: Fashion designer Vera Wang knew how to impress in her billowing creation

The frock had a lace top, revealing a hint of Lorde’s black bra, and then went into a full satin skirt which fell just below her knees.

The singer’s wide-leg trousers – also made of satin – poked out from underneath.

Lorde, whose real name is Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor, kept her feet comfortable for the evening in black flats.

The Royals hit-maker swept half of her raven locks back and left the rest of them tumbling around her shoulders.

Lorde finished off her look with natural make-up to highlight her glowing complexion, sporting just a little winged eyeliner and pink lipstick.

The teen was seen hanging out with some of fashion's finest during the event, including Karlie Klos, Diane von Furstenberg and Riccardo Tisci.

Lorde also goofed around while posing for photos with Amanda Seyfried.

Demi Moore also wore black to the star-studded event, but picked a flirty and form-fitting frock.

Meanwhile Leigh Lezark flashed plenty of flesh in her daring black gown, and fashion designer Vera Wang picked a billowing creation.

While she is currently working on her latest album, Lorde recently collaborated with Disclosure on the song Magnets, which came out in September.

It has been two years since the New Zealand born star’s chart-topping debut album Pure Heroine was released.

Lorde released Yellow Flicker Beat from the Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 soundtrack in September last year, a couple of months after revealing that her second album is in the early stages.
