New Zealand Visitor Visa

If a person is visiting New Zealand for three months or less(six months for residents of the United Kingdom) and is from a visa-waiver country then he/she does not need to apply for a visitor visa.  A person can apply by completing the ‘New Zealand Passenger Arrival Card’ and if he/she is granted permission for entry will also be given visitor visa.  Visitor visa granted at the airport is electronic and the person will have to abide by the rules mentioned in his/her visa.

Requirements for visitor visa

Person applying for the visitor visa should be:

·         Bona fide temporary visitor

·         Good character

·         Good health

·         Purpose of travel should fit the visitor visa requirements

Passport

Passport should be provided along with the application form and it should be valid for atleast three months past the date of travelling out of New Zealand.

Proof of return travel

·         Travel tickets out of New Zealand should be provided

·         Written confirmation from the airlines or travel agency stating that the travel bookings have been done and paid for by the visitor

Funds

A person needs to show proper proof that he has enough money during his stay. 

·         Person should have a minimum of NZ$1000 per person per month during the stay

·         NZ$400 per person per month if accommodation has already been paid for.  Hotel vouchers need to be produced

·         Funds can be in the form of cash, travelers squelches, bank drafts and credit cards(having proper credit limits and full payments done)

·         Authorities can also accept declaration by the sponsor stating that accommodation and maintenance of the visitor would be their responsibility

Duration of stay

The maximum stint is for nine months in an eighteen month period.                      

Family

The application can cover visitor’s partner and any dependent children below 19 years of age.

Medical Insurance

People traveling should carry a valid medical insurance unless they are from the United Kingdom or Australia who are given immediate medical cover.

Important points to be considered during the stay

·         Working while staying in New Zealand is prohibited (unless the person has a work visa)

·         Studying for more than three months is also not allowed (unless the person has a student visa)

·         Abiding the rules and regulations of the country

Visitors are liable to be deported if they do not comply these points.  A person’s application can also be rejected if they do not fulfill the requirements mentioned above, has committed serious criminal offense or has provided wrong information in the application form.
