The new and improved design of Malaysia Airlines Bhd’s (MAB) iconic kebaya and other uniforms will remain true to its brand values, allow freedom of movement and are comfortable yet stylish, said its designer, Datuk Seri Dr Farah Khan.

The creative director of fashion brand, Farah Khan, said she was flooded with a sense of warmth when she thought about the national carrier’s uniform. “Change is good, constant and inevitable, but some things shouldn’t change, like good values,” she told the New Straits Times. “My inspiration is purely to create a uniform that the people of MAB can be proud of.

The idea is to modernise the entire fleet, and for those wearing the uniform to be comfortable, yet feel stylish. “We live in a world that makes so many demands on us and this uniform should not be like that. It must allow freedom of movement, yet give the wearer a sense of pride and wellbeing. “After all, it is a symbol of our national carrier, and thereby, a symbol of this nation.” Farah said she could not share further details of the uniform as everything was under wraps.

Her philosophy, she said, had always been: “It is much better to show, than to tell.” Farah said her team wanted to complement the vision of taking MAB forward. “There is much work to be done and that has been done. This is an integral part of the process. “This isn’t just a cosmetic change, it is one that speaks to mindset and attitude. “The significance of self-presentation should never be undervalued. How you look determines how you feel about yourself, how you perform and that can be game-changing.” MAB had, on Monday, announced its strategic partnership with fashion brand Farah Khan to redesign the national carrier’s iconic kebaya and other uniforms. Through the partnership, Farah would redesign the uniforms worn by the staff of the airlines’ departments, including flight deck, cabin crew, airport and engineering.

Farah is a Singaporean-born and Malaysia-based fashion mogul. Her career blossomed in 1972 when she was 17, after she won a Designer of the Year contest in Singapore with a cheongsam-inspired gown she crafted. Farah is also the founder and president of Malaysia’s leading luxury retailer, The Melium Group. In 2007, Farah created her namesake label, Farah Khan, which retails in 70 cities worldwide and has been worn by Hollywood celebrities. Her collection is mostly inspired by her travels, architecture, botany, art, music, and the people she meets from all over the world.Read more at:Black Prom Dresses | White Prom Dresses
