India's leading carmaker Maruti Suzuki has finally unveiled the third-generation Swift for the Indian market. After opening bookings for the new model on Thursday, the company has now handed over its official brochure to us and has updated its website as well.

The new Maruti Swift will be launched at the Auto Expo 2018 and will be offered in 12 variant options with Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) available in both petrol and diesel trims. While the car looks all-new in its updated avatar, the engines and the transmissions have been carried forward from the existing model without any change in the state of tuning.

The petrol version is powered by the 1.2-litre K-series engine which delivers 83PS at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 113Nm at 4,200rpm. Propelling the diesel variants is the successful Fiat's 1.3-litre Multijet engine that produces 190Nm of torque at just 2,000rpm while offering a power output of 75PS at 4,000rpm. Both the engines come mated to a five-speed gearbox with the AMT option available in the selected variants only.

The new Swift is based on the company's latest Heartect platform which offers 20mm larger wheelbase while making the car much more (over 85kg) lighter than the outgoing model. It will surely help the new version to deliver better performance as well as the fuel efficiency than the existing one.

n its fifth-generation, the platform has also been claimed to provide the car with enhanced rigidity, improved strength and better NVH level. The length of the car in the new version has been reduced by 10mm while the width has been extended by 40mm to offer more cabin space as well as an increased boot space by 58 litres, around 28 per cent more than the second-generation Swift.

The new Swift will be available in 12 variant options, starting with the LXi/LDi trims while the top-end trims will be ZXi/ZDi. These variants will offer following features:
