The curious decisions of Netflix may not always leave the audience unbothered.  Netflix bid adieu to the famous and much beloved ABC Family/Freeform series “The Fosters”. The feel-good drama was written around a diverse foster family situated in San Diego consisting of a couple, their biological son, and their four adopted children. The show explored how they lead their lives through school, work and home.

All through the five seasons and its 104 episodes of the sitcom on Freedom, the show was appreciated for its theme and socially progressive plotlines. The drama saw its last episode in 2018, but its legacy marched on with spin-off series “Good Trouble” which dealt with the journey of two of the foster kids’ ride further.

But keeping all this mind, the only question the fans can think of is why did Netflix pull the show? How will the world access the show now?

To answer the first question, Netflix did not own the rights to the show The Fosters like many other licensed titles. The Fosters was a show produced by Original Freeform Productions and distributed by Disney-ABC who had a deal with Netflix, but it seems that the agreement had expired this month.

At such a juncture, the two parties must have sat down to discuss the new terms and conditions and maybe the entire thing did not pan out like the last time when Netflix managed to secure the license. At the behest of the studio, the show was not renewed. This put The Fosters on the long list of shows that comprises names like Friends and Mad Men, the shows that no longer exist on Netflix.

And all the heartbreak the Netflix subscribers feel is because of some complicated licensing agreements. Back in early 2018, Freeform announced that the show would end that spring, and this was right in the middle of season five. The series was seen off with a three-episode finale that was on the air from June 4 to June 6 2018. The last episodes laid down the foundation for the show “The Good Trouble” that stars Maia Mitchell and Cierra Ramirez. But, for the people who were in the middle of watching the show and woke up to the devastating news, do not worry. The entire show shall be made available on Hulu and Amazon Prime Video.
