Since
June 2011, the CSIR-UGC NET exam conducted to award Eligibility for Lectureship
and Award of Junior Research Fellowship to deserving candidates has been
modified into a single paper test. The 200-marks exam is conducted over 3 hour
duration and comprises entirely of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). There are
three separate parts to the question paper.
Part
‘A’
This
section consists of 20 questions in the category of Research Aptitude,
Quantitative Reasoning & Analysis, and General Science. You will be
required to answer only 15 questions with each of the questions carrying two
marks. The total marks allocation for this section will be 30 out of the
possible 200.
Part
‘B’
This
section consists of 50 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) based on the topics
mentioned in the syllabus, out of which you need to answer any 35. Each of the
questions is of two marks and the total marks for this section is 70 out the
maximum 200.
Part
‘C’
Comprising
of 75 questions, this section puts a candidate’s knowledge and application of
scientific concepts to the test. The questions are usually of an analytical
nature where a candidate is expected to apply a specific scientific knowledge
in order to arrive at a solution for the problem. A candidate is required to
answer only 25 questions. Each of the questions has weightage of 4 marks and
the total weightage of the section comes to 100 out of a possible 200.

§ For
every wrong answer, a negative marking of 25% is applicable
§ The
question paper booklet distribution takes place 15 minutes before the scheduled
start so that candidates have sufficient time to go through the questions. The
Answer sheet is distributed only at the scheduled start time
§ A
candidate will be allowed to carry the Question Paper booklet only after
completion of the exam as per the scheduled end time, and not if he/she leaves
the hall before that
