My Sneaky Journey to the Snake Island

I say sneaky because after living and working in Manila all my life, it’s my first time to really travel miles away from my comfort zone. And I wanted to do it alone. No noisy children nor my talkative relatives or officemates. I just want to be with myself and nature. Because I woke up one morning and I realized I’m not getting any younger, I need to see other places than this polluted city. So I checked the Google and this Snake Island in Palawan really caught my interest.

The Snake Island is only the “nickname”of the place because its real name is Vigan Island. It was named Snake Island because of the snakelike stretch of sand on one side of the island. And instead of seeing snakes, I see beautiful and different kinds of fish. The island has a rich marine life and you can really see it face to face. There are also interesting coral formations. What a wonderful scene! I think it’s one of the best places to do snorkeling and swimming.

On the other hand, some people say that it’s not a good place because it is full of rocks but when you look closely to the rocks, you could see that they have colorful and varied parts. There were also limestone deposits and different minerals. I also love the seashells, the large starfish and luckily I also found a horseshoe crab which is very rare to see according to the village people.

There is also a hiking trail that will lead you to vantage points on high ground. And from there, you could see the magnificent view of the surroundings, the ocean, the islands and everything for me at that time was beautiful.

The Snake Island is part of the El Nido Tour Package B. Everyone who is stressed of work, lovelife or social issues should take some time to relax in a place like this. Soon I will be bringing the noisy children in our house and my ever talkative officemates and relatives here. I want to share the joy I felt here and the peace of mind that I gained while I was in this haven.
