Mujacking: A Great Way to Repair Sideways
by Elite Concrete Lifting Concrete Lifting ServiceSometimes referred as concrete raising, slab jacking or concrete lifting etc., mujacking is a cost-effective way to remove and replace your sunken and uneven concrete. Homeowners often wonder how it works and why it is a great option to repair concrete. Let us have a quick look of what it is.
A Brief History of Mudjacking:
The process of mudjacking came about in the l920’s or in the early 1930’s. It is a wonderful way to repair the sunken concrete found mainly on highways and to fill the voids underneath the slabs of concrete. The process has been widely used all across the United States as it is effective and has reduced costs.
What is the Process?
The process of mudjacking needs a few steps only and special equipment known as mudjack pump which is designed with the aim of pumping the slurry or the grout in a controlled way. This process of mudjacking sunken concrete also requires a small dump truck or a truck and trailer combo to accomplish the entire job. Also, there are larger and more self-contained trucks in the market that are designed with an aim to mix and pump at the same time. Owing to its higher cost sometimes people prefer truck and trailer method.
How the Process works?
-
A row and column of small holes (less than 2”) are drilled all through the slab of concrete. In general a standard sidewalk section needs four holes and a slab of drive needs up to six.
-
Slurry or grout is mixed up and pumped with a high pressure through these holes which fills the voids. When pressure builds, hydraulics takes over and the slab elevates up to its original position. The concrete slab is lifted and endorsed by the slurry pump lying underneath. If multiple slabs are to be mudjacked, the slabs should be evened at the joints and most of the times a new grade is built.
-
The holes that were drilled with the help of mudjack pump are patched discreetly with a concrete mix when finished off it blends well.
-
The mudjacked concrete is ready to use and the sidewalks are ready to take strolls
