A highly scalable and performance oriented database is the basic priority of every web developer. If you too are one then it is an absolute necessity to get hold of the right database management software. Whether you are indulged in WordPress web development or plain software development, data management is something you can't take for granted. MongoDB is one such truly effective data management software that allows you to design, develop and deliver databases for meeting varied purposes including: user data management, content management and delivery, big data and a lot more. If you are new to MongoDB and want to gather a deep understanding of the same then you've landed on the right post. Here, I'll be making you well acquainted with all the steps that mark the appropriate use of MongoDB.

Step 1- Install MongoDB in your system

Having used MongoDB for over 3 years, I recommend you to opt for a renowned online service for installing the MongoDB database. Here, I've opted for using MongoHQ website for downloading and installing a free version of MongoDB database. All you need to do is create an account and you can start managing databases of any size.

Step 2- Create your first database

Once you've downloaded and installed MongoDB on your system, simply click on “Add a Database” link for creating your first database. You can choose to name this database as “blog”. Specifying the name as 'blog' means that you'll be able to manage the database for your blog.

Step 3- Create a user for the database

Now that you're done with creating the “blog” database, opt for adding a user who will be authorized to access the database and manipulate it in any way even outside MongoHQ. Here, it is vital to make a note of the username and password that has been used for creating the user. These credentials would serve handy each time the added user wants to gain access to the database and plans to perform tweaks to it.

Step 4- Create categories for documents, also called Collections

Document categorization is one of the vital aspects of database management. For example, if you intend to have multiple documents related to specific blogs/articles then creating collections serves as the best option for collaborating the documents into a single folder. This collection of documents is also referred to as Posts. Go to the Collections page and create a collection which is named as “Posts”. Refer the below screen-shot for the same:

On this page, opt for adding some documents to the posts collection. Here, you'll be able to view a JSON object with a property that's named as _id. This _id property serves as a handy way of identifying each document included within the posts collection. Further, create two separate properties and name them as 'title' and 'content'. Here is the screen-shot for how the screen for this looks like:

Step 5- Repeat step 4 for a second time and you'll have two separate blog posts created using a manual approach. I personally recommend using lorem ipsum for creating dummy content.

So, if you are thinking about delivering Custom WordPress Development solutions or a range of other web solutions with production grade databases then MongoDB is your tool. Go ahead and start leveraging its features for building remarkable applications without worrying about the hassles of database management.

Wrapping it all up

I'm sure this post would have allowed you to learn a lot about the correct usage of MongoDB. Backed by remarkable features, MongoDB can be easily managed on any cloud infrastructure. Plus, the 24x365 global support organization can be accessed for resolving a wide array of issues pertaining to use of MongoDB.
