Modi visit to Pawar home turf sends BCCI into a tizzy

by Suraj K. News reporter
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited to visit Baramati by NCP President Sharad Pawar to endorse the developmental activity for the poor farmers and to see the Agricultural Center. It has been already made clear by the leaders of both the parties that this is an initiative taken for the developmental purpose of the people of the region and so political differences have been kept aside. Yet the whole issue seems to be embroiled with much controversy not only from the political circles but also from the cricketing world.

The primary purpose of Modi’s visit is that he would be inaugurating a scientific research centre in this village of Maharashtra. However, following Thursday Supreme Court order, what should have been a drab and conventionally organized Government function has now got the officialdom in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) interested.

Senior NCP Leader Praful Patel had also added an extra dimension to the meeting as he asked people not to read too much into the meeting. Patel also added that Sharad Pawar will only agree to become the President of BCCI if all the state associations unanimously elect him. It has been reasserted by Patel that Mr. Pawar will not contest any elections and as for the meeting it was much decided much before the Supreme Court verdict had been declared. Mr. Pawar, as claimed by Patel, has always maintained a good relation with the BJP Leaders and this meeting was a pre-decided one.

Despite all the clarifications, there has been a quite a number of speculation and curiosity going on among the board officials, especially N. Srinivasan’s loyalists who thought that the rumored backroom alliance between BJP and NCP has come to an end once the Shiv Sena joined Devendra Fadnavis’s Government in Maharashtra.

The buzz that is going in the BCCI circles is that Pawar is again leaning towards BJP which holds the keys to the future power structure of the BCCI. It has been sensed that Pawar can only challenge Srinivasan’s iron grip over the BCCI by winning over the ruling party at the Centre.

According to Srinivasan’s aide, this would be an interesting function, but his camp refused to be a part of the discussions. The BCCI President in sabbatical returned home in Chennai only late on Friday evening from Sringeri Mutt and he is expect to hold his meeting from Saturday.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has always been on the advantageous edge when it comes to decision making as Praful Patel profile remains quite strong in this regard. Along with Sharad Pawar, Patel has shown unflinching support and loyalty towards the party and has always taken wise decision when the question of party’s integrity and respect was concerned.

Author’s Bio: NCP Leader Praful Patel has asked people to stay away from any kinds of controversy as the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sharad Pawar was decided for a long time. To know more about Praful Patel news, visit his official website.
