Misión San Ignacio
The Mission of San Ignacio, this building was built in the 18th century and is one of the many missions used in the Catholic evangelizing movement in that area of Mexico during the Colony. Today you can still see utensils from that era in its rooms, as well as a peculiar painting on one of its walls, dedicated to peyote.
It is located in the ejido San Ignacio de Arareko, a typical Tarahumara village scattered in 20 thousand hectares of forest and it is around the mission that the community gathers.
Next to it, there is a museum that exhibits 45 paintings of sacred art. It is in the middle of impressive landscapes of rock formations such as the Valley of the Mushrooms, the Valley of the Frogs and the Valley of the Monks. Nearby is Lake Arareko.
