Meet Mitsubishi Delica D5, the Perfect Minivan For You
Mitsubishi first introduced the Mitsubishi Delica in 1968 producing 4/5-door van and 2-door pickup trucks. Over the years, the Delica kept producing several models and series like the Delica Space Gear, D2, D3, and D5. The fifth-generation Delica D5 series is an 8-seater, 5-door MPV that was unveiled in 2007 with practicality, luxury, and off-roading capabilities.
It features Mitsubishi’s body safety construction system Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) that is designed to enhance the car‘s passive safety system by connecting other parts of the car to the energy-absorbing features of the front and rear end. The D5’s framework also has some changes which made it safer, stronger, and lighter compared to previous Delica’s models.
Engine and Transmission
The Delica D5 is fitted with a 2.4L 4B12 inline-4 MIVEC VVT engine producing 125 KW (170 HP) with CVT INVECS-III automatic transmission and Mitsubishi’s AWC four-wheel drive. It achieves an average fuel economy of 9.6L/100KM. In 2012, the Delica D5 diesel variant was introduced with a 2.2L 4N14 inline-4 turbo diesel engine producing 109 KW (146 HP) and an average fuel economy of 7.3L/100KM.
Interior and Safety
The D5 offers plenty of space with 3-rows that can accommodate 8-passengers. It has enough legroom and headroom, elevated driver seats for good visibility, adjustable seats for the passengers, and several storage compartments for storing items, and spacious booth space. Additional standard features include xenon HID headlights, UV tinted glass, 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic tailgate, two automatic rear sliding doors, and dual-zone air conditioning. The Delica D5 standard safety equipment includes SRS airbags for driver and passenger, knee airbags, Active Stability Control, Anti-lock Braking System, and Electronic Braking Distribution.
Mitsubishi Delica D5 (2019)
Mitsubishi released the new Delica D5 in February 2019, based on the Strada, Montero Sport, and Xpander models. The front of the new Delica D5 has been thoroughly revised highlighting Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield design concept with a more extensive grille, new teardrop LED at the rear, and multi-function LED headlights at the front. The interior is equipped with a modern horizontal line dash that blends luxury and practicality.
The 2019 D5 features e-Assist Active Safety technology with Forward Collision Mitigation and a new 8-speed sport mode automatic transmission for the 2.2L 4N14 turbocharged diesel engine. It is available in two grades: the Standard with standard bench seats and the Urban Gear with 6 seats and captain seats in the second row.
