Mayweather says he is ready to step out of retirement just to fight McGregor
In recent sports news, Floyd Mayweather has commented that he is all willing to step out of his retirement from Boxing just to fight Conor McGregor. If you have been following the supposed boxing-MMA crossover fight between the 49-0 former boxing champion, Floyd Mayweather and the reigning UFC lightweight champion, Conor McGregor, you must already know much of the details of the fight. There has been so much going on regarding the fight; loads of pre-fight talks from both sides. Mayweather taunting McGregor and McGergor replying back with videos of him showing off his boxing skills.
However, it is really just talks that are currently going on for now. Nothing really can be said about the actual fight. The biggest problem right now is that the negotiation is breaking off. Both the fighters demands are too high, and Dana White can't seem to bring both fighters to the terms. Recently McGregor demanded $100 million for the fight, and now it is Mayweather's turn to speak up.
Also in other entertainment news read, Aaron Kaufman left Gas Monkey Garage and the popular Discovery show, Fast N Loud.
Mayweather was recently in Liverpool, England, and he said that he's coming out of retirement just to fight Mayweather. He further said
"I don't want to hear no more excuses about the money [or] about the UFC. Sign the paper with the UFC, so you can fight me in June. Simple and plain. Let's fight in June."
It seems like Mayweather is taking a firm step now. Earlier in an interview with ESPN, he said "I don't know if it's going to happen. If Conor McGregor really wants the fight to happen, stop blowing smoke up everybody's ass and sign the paper."
But, Dana White, the president of UFC, who also arranged the fight in the first place, has admitted that the fight may not happen primarily because they can't come to terms regarding the fighters' fee. He previously offered both the fighters $25 million publically for the fight. Besides, McGregor is also under exclusive contract with the UFC, which is presenting some hurdles in making the fight happen.
McGregor is the current UFC lightweight champion. He won the title by knocking out Eddie Alvarez last year, in November. He hasn't fought since then. Mayweather, on the other hand, boasts his 49-0 streak in boxing, but he hasn't fought since late 2015, after his retirement.
Regardless of whether the fight may happen or not, one thing that's going in favor of both the fighters is that they are sure getting all the attention of media and fans. Both are excellent self-promoters and all the public war of words, as well as the fight rumors, are keeping both in the spotlight. It is thus expected that we'll hear more by both the parties in the coming months.
