Make the Most Out of Bixby With These Tips and Tricks
by John Martin EngineerLaunched
in April 2107, Bixby is Samsung’s own voice assistant that is found in its
smartphones. While Bixby has been new to the scene which is dominated by the
likes of Google Assistant, Siri and Alexa, the dedicated voice assistant has
evolved to learn lots of new features in its latest iterations. Bixby has a
slew of features that can utilise the smartphone’s rich resources. Bixby is far
from achieving the complexity of Google assistant, however, it can come in
handy for all Samsung users as more features get added to Bixby with every
update. Here are a few tips and tricks for Bixby.
§ Enhanced
Voice recognition
Bixby
uses a set of multiple microphones by analysing your voice and training itself
to recognise only your voice in a group of many. This can be enabled by going
into the Bixby home page, swiping right on your home screen, then tapping on
the vertical three dots and selecting ‘Settings’. Find ‘Enhanced Voice
Recognition’ and then select ‘Record Your Pronunciation’. Bixby will then ask
you to pronounce a set of sentences which will enable Bixby to learn your
voice.
§ Use
Bixby as a translator
Bixby
can translate things for you using the camera of your smartphone. Bixby uses
its Bixby Vision feature that captures data from your camera and can offer
translation in just a few seconds. This feature can be used by opening your
camera and selecting the text on the screen. After selecting the text, tap on
the ‘Translate’ button which will easily translate the text for you.
§ Extract
text from pictures
In a
similar fashion of using the translate feature, you can capture the text by
selecting the ‘Extract’ button. This will allow you to get a text from your
images easily. This is great for taking down notes or keeping track of bills.
§ Post
photos to social media
Bixby
can now directly post your pictures from the gallery to any social media
platform. You can use the command ‘Hi Bixby, post my last photo on Instagram’
and post your picture directly to Instagram. This can be used for various
social media platforms. One can also use this feature when viewing any picture
in the gallery.
§ Voice-type
messages
Following
the suit of Google assistant, Bixby can convert your voice into text by simply
dictating your message. For taking advantage of this feature, first, you will
have to enable the ‘Dictation on Keyboard’ which can be found by going to the
Bixby homepage, then clicking the three dots and going into ‘Settings’. Once
this feature is enabled, one can press the Bixby button on their phone to
dictate your message while on the typing screen.
