Mahindra Quanto short review 2014 India

Unfortunately, Mahindra thought that chopping one of its car will be a great time-saving measure but selecting the ugliest car available on market was a pretty stupid move. In a nutshell, like Mahindra Xylo, to like Mahindra Quanto you either have to be stupid or blind or even both. The face is straight from Xylo with the only change being body colored lip and new bumper.
Side profile is same till C-pillar, where an awkwardly shaped quarter panel spawns. Doors and windows are quite big for a sub 4-metre car. 15” wheels enhances ugliness. Proportionality is throughout absent in Quanto, a car with wheelbase and width of Xylo but only 3985mm of length (excluding spare wheel).
Rear end is new and somehow the best viewing angle for otherwise hideous Quanto. Spare wheel cover looks good and provides SUVish kinda persona to the car. D-pillar are blacked out and houses wraparound tail-lamps. Butterfly windows for third-row passengers and fairly low door-handles sums up the exteriors.
Step inside and its hello to Xylo again with the same dashboard layout. Simple and functional look is appreciating but the color and texture coordination is a bit dull and boring. Material feels hard and brittle too with a made-to-price theme. Front seats are fully adjustable with 3-stage lumbar support and height adjustment. Individual armrests are super comfy. However, the seats are flatbed kinda stiff and the fabric looks cheap too. Space in rear is adequate with acres of headroom and airy feel, thanks to humongous windows. Third row carries two jump seats which are best for kids with a city limited usability due to the absence of seatbelts.
Mahindra took 3 long years to develop a sub-1500cc diesel engine. Result is a mCR100 twin-stage turbo engine with impressive 100PS of power at 3750rpm and 240Nm of torque between 1600-2800rpm. The engine is torquey with sufficient low-end grunt and performance. Efficiency is about 14kmpl. And that’s not bad considering Quanto’s 1640kg kerb weight. Ride is easy and effortless with raised seating position and powerful engine. However, high center of gravity and bizarre weight distribution means considerable body-roll and stiff suspension is inevitable.
Priced at 5.9 Lakhs which further goes to 8.03 Lakhs, Mahindra Quanto is a great package of practicality, amenities and value. But with Ford EcoSport and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga as options, you’ll have to be both blind and stupid to get yourself a Quanto.
