If you are one avid traveller and if following history are your favourites, then the best place to visit is the Lost City Trek. One of the most fabled of all types of treks, this trek is known as Colombia’s Lost City (Ciudad Perdida) trek. This is a trek which is not for weak people because most of the trek involves making way through steep inclines, muddy and slippery roads and even crossing a river.

Besides climbing a steep terrain, full with moss and creepy crawlies, you also have a chance to see some of the most breathtaking views around the country. There are palaces built along the crevices of mountains, holy temple sites and various kinds of statues along the way. For a person who is a history buff, travel to Machu Picchu can be quite the enlightening journey. The entire city of Machu Picchu was built keeping in mind the astronomical position of the moon and the sun, as such the trail too has been carved keeping in mind all these.

So, if you are planning to go for the Lost City Trek, you should be thoroughly prepared. You will need to a list of things which will help you on your journey. The first and foremost thing is to keep in mind how difficult the trek is. Not everyone can climb a tough terrain and for someone who wants to, it is important that they know their capability. Thus, before embarking on the trip, enthusiasts should study the trek’s difficulty to understand better how to complete the trek.

There are also a few hiking things that you should essentially carry before embarking on the trip. One vital item is a good pair of hiking shoes. Since, you have decided to travel to Machu Picchu; you have to be prepared to walk on some pretty rough terrains. Having a great pair of shoes can lessen the troubles and also make the travelling much easier.

For a novice hiker, carrying a backpack is essential. Along with that a few items need to be there. For instance, it is said that water is available on the Inca trail, but most people do not realize that by water they presume that you would be okay to drink from the streams. Though they are safe enough, many people think that this would not be that good an idea. So, you should carry your own water bottle. Similarly, if you decide to travel for a longer time, or during the evening, you would have to use a mosquito repellent. These will not only ward off mosquitoes, but are also a pretty good repellent for other types of creepy crawlies along the way. Last but not the least; you can carry a decent camera for your trip. Capturing the varied hues of Machu Picchu is a good idea, but do not bog yourself down with heavy photographing units. These will not only bog you down, but will also make trekking very tedious and slow.
