What is a Freemason Lodge?

A Masonic Lodge, also known as a constituent lodge or private lodge, is a place or building where unit meets or Masonic meetings are held. In the same lodge building, meetings of different lodges can be conducted at the same time. This type of thing is common in larger cities, where one building can have various rooms for lodge meetings and the number of lodges can share them.

Here is a description of the typical modern lodge:

  • These comprise a rectangular room with seating around the perimeter and the ceremonies generally take place in the room’s mid that gives a magnificent view to everyone.
  • These have east to west orientation. Actually, ancient temples were built with the east-to-west path of the sun. Even if a Masonic building will face north and south but when you will walk into the room of a lodge, you are emblematically seeing the east.
  • You will find an altar where Bible and other holy books belong to the members of that lodge is opened. Well, in U.S. lodges, the altar is located in the room’s center while the altar will be in front of the Master’s chair in other parts of the world.
  • Three candles are kept in a triangular position that surrounds and placed next to the altar for enlightening the volume of sacred law.
  • The chairs of officers will be in particular positions in the room.
  • Over the Master’s chair, an illuminated letter G is suspended in the east direction and occasionally over the altar.
  • There are two pillars having globes on the top and marbled after two bronze columns that were Solomon’s Temple’s architectural features.
