Life’s Better When It’s Clean

by Maggie Fox Dry Cleaners and Laundry

I’m a big believer that when your home’s messy, life is too. It becomes stressful and unhealthy. Good or bad, it all starts at home. That’s why I like to clean my house with healthy, eco-friendly products. Quite simply, life’s better with a healthy, clean home.

Unfortunately, there are some dangerous chemicals, pesticides and cleaners in most of our homes that can be toxic to people and our pets. To keep you loved ones safe, consider buying products that have been certified green and without ammonia, chlorine and toxins. Meanwhile, here are some tips about keeping your home hygienic and orderly.

1.     Prevent infections

While bleach is known to kill germs, bacteria and viruses that make you sick, it’s also known to cause respiratory problems and even birth defects. So, the best advice is to use environmentally friendly sprays and disinfectant wipes along with frequent hand washing. Make sure to thoroughly disinfect the kitchen, bathroom and toilets where harmful pathogens thrive. Forget those hand-sanitizing gels. Studies show they only work for two minutes and that washing your hands with soap and water is just as effective at killing germs. Health experts also advise against antibacterial soap, which may kill some bacteria, but doesn’t kill cold and flu viruses.

2.     Keep allergies under control

Try to create a home free from allergens, and asthma and allergy-triggering bacteria to keep sneezing and coughing under control. Leave the windows closed in the spring and fall so that allergens can’t drift inside. Have people remove their shoes at the door so they don’t track dirt through the house. Wash animal bedding frequently. Vacuum regularly, and clean rugs, curtains and furniture covers every change of season. If that’s too big of a chore, Fox Cleaners in Tulsa offers household item cleaning at an affordable price.

3.     Replace toxic products

Choose biodegradable and non-toxic products. Check the label before purchasing. Most of the pesticides and cleaning products come with warning or caution signs. Those products are not good for our environment or us. The poisonous and corrosive chemicals that clean your toilet for example, can also burn your skin and eyes. Some chemicals make allergies worse and over time or prompt new allergic reactions. If a product doesn’t list its ingredients, don’t buy it. Do look for cleaners that are certified and recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Cleaning you house has some added health benefits as well.

1.     Burns calories

Housework is just that – work! That’s why we can get great exercise and burn calories as we tidy up.  According to the Calorie Lab, heavy or vigorous cleaning like washing a car and cleaning the garage can burn 136 calories an hour. Light cleaning like taking out the trash and dusting burns 102 calories an hour. Moving furniture and boxes around will burn 340 calories an hour.

2.     Reduces stress and anxiety levels

Studies prove that exercise reduces stress and anxiety. Cleaning your house can also do that. Nothing feels as good as having everything organized and spotless, so you can focus on other areas of your life or just relax.  Many health officials believe stress is our biggest health concern, so even when you’re really busy, it may be beneficial to exercise and clean the house to reduce stress, instead of letting the housework pile up. Remember that Fox Cleaners in the Tulsa area can help you save time with free pick-up and delivery for dry cleaning, laundry, wash-and-fold, and household items cleaning services.

3.     Improves concentration

A clean and healthy environment can help you focus the more important things in life. It helps you stay organized, both physically and mentally, and increases focus and productivity.  Just imagine how hard it can be to focus–and find things–in a house or office cluttered with paperwork, trash and food.

Research by the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin found that women who described their homes as cluttered with unfinished projects were more depressed, fatigued and stressed that women who felt their homes were restful and restorative.

4.     Improves safety

Cleaning your home and office makes your environment physically safer. In emergencies, you’ll be able to easily find and grab things you need most and escape through an unblocked exit.  An orderly home presents fewer risks to children and the elderly to trip and fall. Putting away electrical cords prevents fire hazards. Serious health issues can also be caused by dust. So, there’s no doubt a healthy home is a safer home.

5.     Keeps pest away

Pests like bedbugs, cockroaches, dust mites and rats cause health issues like asthma, malaria, skin irritation, fever, and allergic reactions just to name a few. Pests thrive in dirty places and can quickly become major infestations, threatening you and your home.

Safe, Clean and Healthy

Living in a healthy and clean environment can increase your life span, reduce stress and make it less likely you’ll get sick. If you don’t have time for chores like laundry, hire a professional like Fox Cleaners to help you save time and keep your home safe, clean and healthy.
