Lice Combs: How to Use Them

by Jennifer Watson Blogger | Writer | Social Media Geek

You may not want to think so, but head lice are quite common.In fact, every year millions of school aged children in the United States get them. There’s a high probability that your child may be one of them.

There are numerous ways of treating a lice infestation, such as using over-the-counter lice removal shampoos and products, using a high quality lice comb or making an appointment with lice salons. While all options are effective, Lice Troopers, a lice removal service, swears by the lice comb option. Treating a lice infestation with the help of a good quality metal comb is very effective in removing head lice. A meticulous and consistent approach are the keys to success.

All You Need

Gather the following items with you before starting on the treatment;

ü  Good quality metal comb

ü  Conditioner

ü  Regular comb

ü  White towel

ü  Some paper towels

ü  Some hair clips or barrettes

What to Do

Although, a head lice comb-out can also be done on dry hair,it is most effective on wet hair. Add some conditioner, comb out all tangles with the help of a regular comb and get ready to start this grueling task.

Use A Regular Comb:Part down the middle of the hair, clipping up one half with a barrette.

Pick Up The Lice Comb: Take one small section of hair on the loose side and start slowly combing at the scalp. This will help catch the lice eggs (nits) that are laid just a fraction of an inch from the scalp.Do the same with all remainingsections and be mindful of combing all the way up and down so that all nits and lice are caught.

Wipe The Comb: Usea paper towel to remove the lice and nits caught between the teeth of the comb. Start again and continuecombing each section of the hair until no lice or nits can be seen on the metal comb.

How Often Should This Be Done?

For those who have an active lice infestation, the comb-out should be carried out every day or two until no live lice can be seen in the hair for about two weeks. The first combing should be thorough as to get rid of most of the lice.The remaining that may also have hatched in the meantime will be removed with each subsequent combing.
