The Legal Metrology Department has seized and registered cases against two petrol pumps for delivering a lower quantity of fuel to consumers on May 22nd, 2022. It is observed by the legal metrology department and its officers that the six nozzles of a petrol pump located on the National Highway in Srinagar are delivering short fuel by about 30 ml for every five litres of fuel. All the nozzles of the outlet were seized on the spot and the case was registered under section 30 of the Legal Metrology Act 2009.

The department of Legal Metrology has also received a complaint from the consumers that the petrol pumps across Srinagar were indulging in unfair trade practices. By trying to mislead the customers with the use of various tricks against them, they have committed the offence under the Legal Metrology Act. Power of Legal Metrology officers laid them to lodge the complaints against the Petrol Pumps after conducting the raid and inspections.

Petrol Pump Inspection done by Legal Metrology Officers

An officer of the legal metrology department has inspected the various outlets, during which several petrol pumps were found guilty of violating the law and were subsequently seized by the Legal Metrology Department.
In several other petrol pumps similar cases were found in which the delivery of short fuel to the consumer. After which seven nozzles of the outlet were seized for similar reasons.
Recently, two petrol pumps have been seized in Kashmir as well. In another area, the inspection is going on in several petrol pumps.
At present, the Legal Metrology Department has become hyperactive and is taking immediate action against the petrol pumps who are trying to earn wrongful gain through an illegal way from the customer.
In the current situation, a few petrol pumps have been seized and a charge sheet has been filed against them. However, action as per warrant under the law will be initiated as soon as possible.
The surprise visits by the officers of the legal metrology department highlighted many petrol pumps conducting the offence under the legal metrology act by cheating their customers and engaging in malpractice in the market.

Immediately after getting such information from various people, the Legal Metrology Department has become more active in conducting regular inspections of the petrol pumps at various places and areas of the country.
It is informed by the Legal Metrology Department and the Legal Metrology officers to the consumers and all other general public that in the case of any doubt concerning the delivery of the fuel by any petrol pump, consumers can check the quantity on their own by using the certified 5-litre measures which are available at every petrol pump.
However, if any petrol pump or any employee of the petrol pump refuses to do so, then in such a case, an immediate complaint can be lodged with the Legal Metrology department.
The district administrations of Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar, along with the senior officials from other departments, are strictly acting on the orders of the union petrol pump and natural gas minister by making a surprise visit to the petrol pumps in their districts.

However, due to the misconduct by the petrol pumps, they were found out by the legal metrology department while inspecting the petrol pumps in the city of Srinagar under the supervision of the controller, legal metrology department, Jammu and Kashmir. The functions of those two nozzles were stopped on the spot.
Since then, several inspections have been conducted in Delhi by way of surprise checks on petrol pumps and it is insured by the legal metrology department that in case of any short delivery or any kind of malpractice is found by the petrol pump, such a petrol pump shall be seized with an immediate effect.
Even in the year 2017, few petrol pumps in Uttar Pradesh were charged for dispensing less petrol to customers.
The raids were conducted at the petrol pumps by a team of officers from the Delhi legal metrology department and the Uttar Pradesh legal metrology department.
The several teams of the weight and measure department also conducted surprise checks at petrol pumps.
During that time about 20 petrol pumps across the nation catch illegal activities such as short dispensing of petrol and diesel.
