Today’s fast paced world has made the concept of placing adverts on newspapers no longer a necessity for most big advertisers. These days, not many bother to check out the classified sections anymore. Commissioning a television commercial and having it aired is viewed as a more favourable alternative. However production and airtime costs can get really expensive. This is where mobile advertising comes into the picture; it bridges the gap between exposure and affordability for the entrepreneur’s promotional campaigns. Mobile advertising is defined as a form of marketing that utilises mobile phones or other devices of the same nature.

This modern marketing platform holds numerous benefits. First, it works well because it takes on a more personal nature. The personalised approach is more effective because it is as if you are reaching out to each potential customer. Second is immediacy. When advertising messages are sent through mobile phones, users will be able to act immediately if they want to purchase the product or avail of the service being mentioned. 

Actually, there are different kinds of advertising strategies that make full use of mobile phone networks and the technology behind it. There is Short Message Service or SMS. A lot of cell phone users receive textual advert messages from their service providers or other third party advertisers through this strategy. The SMS route is preferred by advertisers because it is an economical option. A business owner can post a text advertisement to the mobile service providers. They, in turn, will send those text messages as group SMS to their customers. Recipients can pour over those promotional reminders at their leisure. If they are interested in the product or service being promoted, the manufacturer can easily be reached.

Then comes the Multimedia Messaging Service or MMS. These come in handy when simple text messages are not enough to get the promoter’s message across. In cases like this, advertisers spend a little more to launch their intended promotions. Group SMS is replaced by short video messages highlighting a particular product or service which is then sent to potential customers. The combination of video, sound, and motion graphics make a bigger impact when compared to word-based adverts.

Finally, there are the applications and games. These features are often downloaded unto mobile phones everywhere. Promoters pay to have a small text or video inserted within game and application software. The advertisements typically pop up when the user is loading a level in an engaging game or opening a new application file. Since these are frequently downloaded by people who own a mobile, this method has the potential to release a huge circulation of adverts in a relatively short time.
