The IIFA clashed with voting this year. Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi skipped voting this year to attend the IIFA awards ceremony in the USA. Akhtar is in fact a sitting Rajya Sabha MP while actress Shabana Azmi is an ex-member of the Upper House yet they didn't choose to be a part of our democracy. However their son Farhan, who is co-hosting the entire award function with Shahid Kapoor, stayed back to cast his vote before leaving for Tampa Bay. 

There was a big clash of IIFA 2014 with Mumbai's voting day. The organizers should have foreseen this clash and rescheduled their show so as not to detract from this national event.

 Many Bollywood stars like Rekha, Vidya Balan, Aamir Khan and Sonam Kapoor were among the early voters. Celebrities looked to Twitter to flaunt their fingers and to tell their fans to get inked as Mumbai went for polls on Thursday. Most of bollywood turned out to vote but there was some discontent as some choose to attend the IIFA awards instead.

Critic Srishti Dixit conveys first impressions of the film. Srishti says, ” Random doesn’t begin to define the first half of Kaanchi. Mishti walks straight, talks like she has a speech impediment. Unimpressive so far. The actor who plays Binda has great potential and the supporting cast that consists of Chandan Roy Sanyal, Rishi Kapoor and Mithun Chakraborty is the only saving grace” Apparently the film has a dramatic twist just before the interval that quickens the pace of the second half.

It won’t be wrong to say that  Deepika Padukone has been the star of 2013 and 2014. The elegant actress bagged four back to back hits in the form of Race 2 , Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Chennai Express and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. The films have won her her immense accolades, some coveted awards and most importantly the sought after niche of No 1 female actor in Bollywood. What has caused her success? Is it her acting talent or her perseverance that has elevated her to the number one role? It seems to be a bit of both but we are lucky to have her in the midst of bollywood.
