The more this world is getting advanced, the easier it is for us to forget out roots. People are born, and then people die, and after a while we forget them. But, it is important to keep track of our lineage and ancestors as it helps in knowing about your roots and being in touch with the foregone era. Keeping a track of your ancestry is very complex. Having information regarding a few generations is easy, but eventually you are bound to forget. Hence, one should invest time and efforts in making a family tree chart.

Trace your Ancestry

We know of the stories about our family, of where they came from, and what they did. These stories are told to us by our elders, and we listen to them like folktales, like tales that have nothing to do with us. But they do! They make us who we are, and they make for more than just a story told to us by our elders. And we are sure that you would want these stories to go on, to your children, and their children, and so on. That is an easy thing now. Just make yourself a family tree.

A family tree uses the structure of a tree to represent the relationships between the family. It gives you the details of people in your family, putting the in context of generations, one after another. It allows you to trace your roots, as far back as possible. Having a family tree means that the stories you’re told by your elders aren’t just stories anymore. You can refer them to real people in your family, and know them, know more about where it is that you belong to, and where it is that you come from.

The How and What

It is usually your immediate family that can help you with starting your family tree; your immediate elders, your parents, your grandparents, your uncles, and aunts, your cousins, and other familial relations. Ask them for information, and stories, anything that they remember being told to them about your ancestors, and record it. Ask them about specific individuals, and gather information about them. Ask them about nicknames, their lives, the places they lived, their marriages, their children, their deaths, their siblings; gather as much information as you can. What you can then do is make a family tree chart and put all the information you gathered in it.

Other things you can do to trace your family history is search your home for records, for family photos, or individual photos. You can also look at old diaries and paintings, family bibles, school records, letters, and other boxes of memory that might possibly exist in your family.

Put it out there

Now build your online family tree to try to organize your results. Keeping your results organized is important, because it is the only way for you to actually be able to gain, or pass on any vital information. Without organized results that are accessible to your future generations, the point of a family tree is made invalid.

Since everything is turning digital today, and for preserving any information the sure shot method is to put it online, in a space where it can’t be physically destroyed. An online family tree does just that. It brings together all your information, and it puts in there where it will be the most accessible for yourself and your future generations. So make a family tree today with Tribalpages, and know more of your family.
