Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana is the scholarship program which is started by Department of Science and Technology in the year 1999.Under this program scholarship of Rs 5000 to Rs 7000 is granted to the selected students who wants to further pursue their career in Research in Basic sciences.

It is one of the most popular scholarships for the students in India studying in class 11, 12 and in B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Ecology, Molecular Biology, Botany, Zoology, Physiology, Biotechnology, Neurosciences, Bioinformatics, Marine Biology, Geology, Human Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Sciences, Applied Physics, Geophysics, Materials Science or Environmental Science.

The main aim of the scholarship is to promote the students in India to pursue their career in the field of research. The candidates are selected based on the written exam based on the syllabus of class 10,10+12 and UG Syllabus for respective candidates followed by Interview. This year the written exam will be conducted on November 6,2016. Level of difficulty and syllabus is different for the students in class 10,10+2 and UG.

3 Exams, 1 for each category named as SA for students enrolled in class 11, SX for students enrolled in class 12 and SB is conducted for students of Undergraduate courses in (BSc/B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int.MSc./M.S.) It is basically a fellowship program that is intended to develop and promote the interest of the students towards the research field. Examination is conducted by the conducting body at the designated test centres throughout the country to shortlist the selected candidates who are eligible to receive the scholarship amount. A monthly stipend of Rs 5000 is given to the shortlisted candidates of First and Third Year of B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math courses along with the annual contingency grant of Rs 20,000 and Monthly stipend or fellowship of Rs 7000 is awarded to the short listed candidates who are in Fourth and Fifth year of their Integrated M.Sc./M.S. and M.Sc. along with the Annual Contingency grant of Rs 28,000.

Examination consists of Analytical skill test followed by the syllabus related exam and a final interview by the KVPY Council. Shortlisted candidates in each category are invited for the personal interview and merit list of the selected candidate are displayed on the official websites. Details of the venue and timings of the examination which is to be held on November 6,2016 will be intimated to the candidates by their admit cards which are available to download from the second week of October online by the official website.

Candidates must check their eligibility criteria before registration to the examination. Last date for registration of the exam is July 10, 2016 and candidates can give examination in both Hindi and English.

Scholarships will be awarded only to those candidates who wish to pursue their career in Research field only,If a candidate opted for any other course excluding the one given above are not eligible for the scholarships.
