Kaal Sarp Dosh is one of the most dreaded Doshas or planetary combinations in Vedic Astrology, as it brings very inauspicious results. ‘Kaal’ means time, and ‘Sarpa’ means ‘snake’. In Vedic astrology, Rahu and Ketu, which are shadow planets, represent a snake’s head and tail, respectively. This Dosh forms when all the 7 planets - Sun, Moon, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn - are found between the malefic planets, Rahu and Ketu. As these planets, which include the Lagna/Ascendant, align within the Rahu-Ketu axis, they lose their effect. People with this Dosh in their birth charts will suffer many ups and downs in life.

Worship the Snake Gods

Worship Lord Nagaraja and other Snake Gods on all Sundays, particularly on Panchami Tithi.

Visit a Holy Place

Pilgrimages to certain temples can benefit those suffering from Kaal Sarp Dosh. One can take a holy dip in Rameshwaram Temple (Tamil Nadu) and offer prayers to ancestors. This can nullify Pitra Shaap, which can cause Kaal Sarp Dosh. Visiting Mahakaleshwar (Ujjain), Kalahasti (Andhra Pradesh), and Trimbakeshwar (Nashik) and worshipping Lord Shiva helps alleviate the problems caused by this Dosha significantly.

Chant Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra

Chant the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra at least 108 times daily.

Worship Lord Shiva

Worship Lord Shiva with Milk Abishekam. Do Shiva Pooja in a temple by offering flowers, milk, Bilva Patra, fruits and plums on all Mondays. Thereafter, donate food and clothes to the needy. Perform Shiva Pooja on Maha Shivratri for best results.

Chant Gayatri Mantra

Other Remedies

Other than the remedies given above, those who have Kaal Sarp Dosh can also try the remedies given below.

· Offer 11 coconuts in a river or flowing water on a Saturday or on Panchami Tithi.

· Offer 108 pairs of Nag and Nagin in flowing water, preferably a river. They should be cast in metal.

· Keep a pet dog. It pleases Lord Batuk Bhairav, and his blessings can help nullify Kaal Sarp Dosh.

· Chant Vishnu Sahasranama.

· Worship Manasa Devi.

· Get an idol (preferably silver) of Nag Raj with 5 hoods. Keep it in Lord Subramanya Swami temple and worship it daily with rice mixed with turmeric.

On the positive side, this Dosh can make one hardworking and practical. The native may develop an interest in spirituality and philanthropy. If other factors in the birth chart are good, the person can reach great heights.
