Jobs in the Cannabis Industry You Have Probably Not Considered

by Kevin J.

There are lots of opportunities in the cannabis industry now that there has been a substantial relaxation in the rules regarding its usage. People normally just think a job in the cannabis industry involves being a dispenser. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Here are a few cannabis jobs that you probably haven’t considered before.

Grow Master

This position involves being in charge with cultivating various strains of cannabis plant. Well trained and experienced Grow Masters are in high demand, which often tips their salary into the six-figure range. Some of the most in demand Grow Masters may even claim a percentage of the profit from the business. The most experienced Grow Masters tend to reside in California – partly because they have had more time to master their craft and build their reputation.

Store Managers

Like any store, it is important for there to be a Store Manager. The more successful Store Managers can command a wage of more than $75,000 a year, and there are often bonuses for these Managers to target based on the performance of their store. With some stores in San Francisco often reaching sales of 7 to 10 million dollars a year, you can probably guess that the bonus will be pretty tasty!

Extraction Technician

Cannabis extracts are a growing side of the industry, and these extracts roughly amount to 40% of all sales and this is expected to grow. Many Extraction Technicians have a PhD, and this makes their skills in high demand. An Extraction Technician can expect to earn six figures a year. Some states, such as New York, have only legalized medicinal cannabis in the extract form, meaning an Extraction Technician is central to the industry in New York.

Bud Trimmers

Not all of us will have the skills to get one of these jobs, so a great entry level position is that of the Bud Trimmer. Wages are expected to be $12 to $13 an hour. The job involves the Trimmer taking the plant and cutting the flower from the stem when it is ready to be harvested. Central to the success of the dispensary is to only cut what is needed and not waste any of the cannabis. While it isn’t the most challenging of jobs, it can get your foot in the door to try and climb up the ladder and take on new positions and tasks.
