Paper publication in the field of research is a core requirement. A researcher or institute must have at least few peer-reviewed published journal papers to be counted as a higher-reputation institute. There are plenty of journals for every research field; however a journal specifically for Astronomy and Earth Sciences was long overdue. The ones that exist are mostly subscription based and not everyone can afford to pay a monthly fee for the subscription to carry on researches. Journal of Astronomy & Earth Sciences Education (JAESE) had been founded with the view of helping rising researchers have their papers published on a peer reviewed open access journal.

What is Open Access?

Most journals with higher Influence Factor (IF) are subscription based. Veteran researchers could afford to subscribe to a lot of journals for further information gathering on their researches, which may not be the case for novice researchers. This novice batch of researchers is trying to get into the limelight for further development in their career and studies and no one starts an expert on the first day. Even if they could come up with a paper, having it published on a higher IF journal is important for a higher rating.

Open access journal eliminate the need for subscriptions and any sort of payment. Papers on these journal would still be peer-reviewed for ensuring quality of the research, but there wouldn’t be any fees to publish any papers or download a paper from these journals.

Scopes of JAESE

Speaking of the scopes and future aspect in JAESE; it’s a scholarly journal and published papers based on disciplinary education research and evaluation. While evaluating a paper the focus of assessment remains on the scientific results that has been derived from ethical experiments and research. For international researches JAESE is a platform with only the highest quality published papers under two categories – systemic research from science education and evaluated teaching innovation. JAESE has published papers on the following disciplines – environmental science, climate education, geography, agriculture, astronomy and meteorology etc.

Acceptance Rates and Professional Society Affiliation
Overall acceptance rate of JAESE is around 30%. Comparing to other journals on similar focus; the acceptance rate is okay. For example, top tier Astrophysical Journal has an acceptance rate of 91%. Journal of Teacher Education is based on teaching evaluation journals and researches which has an acceptance rate of 6% only. With a valid comparison among these three, JAESE remains in a mid-tier category. In these cases, the acceptance rate doesn’t really do fair justice indicating the quality of the journals.

Affiliation with professional society is pretty good, lower than the subscription based journals though. Because papers on those journals are mostly published for revenue generating activities such as getting a scholarship or funding a research even further. In terms of journal publication, monetary activities isn’t really considered unethical, but newcomers need to have an inexpensive platform for their initial researches like JAESE.
