Issues related to restoring quarantined files?

by Kaylee Smith I m Digital Marketer

Introduction

We use a lot of different security solutions, here we are going to talk about the McAfee security suites for the Windows operating system, for instance, Livesafe or total protection, these software suites are able to quarantine the files that seem to be having a malicious virus or some other potent threat to your system.

Sometimes due to wrong identification or other issues, the clean files also get marked or quarantined, in case you encounter that such a file has been quarantined, do not panic, as you will always be able to restore or revert it back to the original placement or location. But there are cases, where you can face unknown problems while restoring a quarantined file, and you can’t figure out why.

You are probably facing one of these issues described below

1. The procedure of restoring crashes and you view this message on your display screen

Unable to Restore

There is a possibility that the original location of the folder the file was selected and quarantined from, now no longer exists, for instance, you might have decided to delete the folder as soon as you saw the file was quarantined, now it cannot be traced as the folder is non-existent. This is the reason why you see the message above.

However, you can resolve the issue by re-making the folder that is missing

  • Click and open Quarantined itemswindow from your McAfee product.
  • Search for what you wanted to restore, from the list of quarantined files.
  • To view extra information that is inclusive of the full original path of the file, click on the arrow to the quarantined file’s left
  • Now re-make the path, for instance, the original path was C:\users\paul\studyfiles\downloads
  • Now go to that folder, using windows explorer.
  • Make the folders if they are missing to get to the path
  • Once the folder is recreated you can choose the file from quarantined items window that appears and click restore.

2. There are a few tabs missing the select all, the restore, and the delete from the quarantine window’s bottom.

With the absence of these tabs, after selecting one can’t restore or delete the quarantined file.

The solution to this is most likely simple as you are most probably logged into the windows as a standard or a limited user.

You can log onto the windows with the administrator permissions or with the admin account, to view the buttons plus to restore or delete your quarantined files, once you are logged in as an administrator the buttons will reappear.
