Is Your HR Department focused on paperwork or profitability?

The HR department, on many occasions, is interpreted as a non-productive department of an organization. Why?  They are not directly involved in production. Quite widely, professionals in the HR department are regarded as paper focused individuals, who don’t have any active contribution to the organizational profitability. This is the high time, when HR department should come out of their paperwork-based role and start participating directly into organizational profitability.

But how?

Here are some important steps that organizations are adopting to shift HR department from a cost centric department to a profitable one:

a)      Critical Performance Addressing Customer Requirements: Organizations with a multi-national presence tend to develop their very own HR team that takes care of not only employee recruitment, but also training programs and processes, handles customer service, deals with project management and process improvement issues, and ultimately focuses on leadership development. Making the transition happen from paperwork to profitability is indeed one of the most critical challenges that the HR department experiences. Furthermore, the transition is not possible without active participation of the other departments. So, CEOs and managers can resort to the following initiatives to help the HR department in getting out of the comfort zone and play a more dynamic role in the organization:

  • Encourage and initiate leadership development programs for HR professionals that would train them about functional disciplines of different types.

  • Encourage the HR department to undertake financial training so that their participation in profitability becomes quicker.

  • Allow the HR department to become an active player in developing organizational strategies, starting from domains like marketing, customer satisfaction, and technology. In this way, a company enjoys greater growth initiatives.

  • All employees, including HR personnel, should be accountable for achieving the critical achievement figures.  

Getting out of the comfort zone is never easy, but remaining focused with specific role-based performance is not enough for any organizational department in modern industry. The journey of the HR department, from paperwork to profitability, will not be an easy one, but modern organizations demand such dynamism and it is better to adapt to the changing trends.
