Is your candidate management strategy good enough?

by Alen Parker Professional Guest Blogger
Whether a candidate is active or passive, he matters. As a recruiter, candidate management is an important part of your job. You never know when there can be a vacant position that has to be closed urgently. Candidate management wasn’t something much-taken care of. However, with the advent of recruitment software in India and abroad, now it has become a crucial function for a recruiter.

The influx of millennials is high. They are known for being assertive and are considered the hardest to manage and please. Hence, managing candidates nowadays isn’t a cakewalk.

There has to be a proper candidate management strategy in place and the tips we share here will help you with the same.

Make them respect you-
It is quintessential to gain the respect of the candidate. In case of millennials and Gen Z, you have to literally earn it. For the same, you have to shift your focus from lining the candidates (even if the job profile isn’t well aligned) to actually thinking of providing them with the best opportunity you have with you.

So, try to talk to them in a way that shows that you are thinking of their benefit before yours. The candidates are in no dearth of job opportunities and so they want to talk to a recruiter who gives them a good reason to talk. If you want to consider them for a position that they haven’t worked for yet, you should tell them honestly which qualities make them a perfect fit and where they may lack. Don’t pressurise, let them decide.

Use the language they use-
Recruiters need to understand that the time when one size (trick) used to fit all is gone. The candidates are now accustomed to being conversed in the language and mode of communication they use. A lot of recruiters who use recruitment management software in India or abroad, maintain a database in the same. But often end up wondering why most of them don’t pick their calls. The answer is simple, they don’t prefer calls, they’d rather prefer to communicate over WhatsApp or Facebook, LinkedIn etc. The Gen Z and Millennials don’t like to follow the recruiter ’s clock. So, use their language and chase them on some social networking app if they don’t pick the call. This way you will sound more convincing and interested in hiring them.

Stay in touch with the candidates-

Some recruiters think that if they have a list of candidates in their recruitment software in India or abroad, to stay in touch, they are ought to call them. No, it doesn’t mean that. You can always keep them updated through emails and WhatsApp. Especially, during the hiring process, otherwise, they may grab another opportunity in the meanwhile.

The aforementioned points will help you a lot in building and nurturing your relationship with the candidates even if they are passive. So, take a cue from this blog to revamp your candidate management strategy soon!
