Is Solar Power suitable for your home?

by Jack Dolson SEO

Solar power is not only environment friendly but is also ‘in’. There is no doubt that solar power is one of the most reliable renewable sources of energy. However, if you are planning to install a solar panel in your home, there are some considerations you must make in order to ensure a smooth installation process and maximum satisfaction.

1. Reduce your usage and increase efficiency

The first thing you must do is to see if there are ways in which you can reduce your energy consumption. CFLs are much more efficient and last much longer than an incandescent bulb. Reducing your energy consumption makes it much easier to convert your energy to solar power. Solar power for housing society needs to be carefully planned before installation.

2. Is the space in your home enough?

A solar panel needs a considerable amount of space. It is best to have a balcony or a terrace at your home or housing society in order to install solar panels. It depends on the installer, the space availability and the system design.

3. Measure how much electricity you use everyday

The first thing to do is to keep a check on your electricity bill. Always go for genuine suppliers. A regular 2 to 3BHK house that uses a microwave, will need about 15000 Watts of power every day.

The solar power cost can be estimated by knowing your State, last month’s electricity bill and the reliable power sources.

4. How much will you pay for having solar panels installed?

Solar power cuts down your electricity bills but it requires an installation cost and an initial investment. Figure out a budget for this and plan accordingly. The cost of solar varies and depends upon how much of the solar energy you will need.

5. Servicing and maintenance

The life of a solar panel is approximately 25 years. Solar panels don’t go through wear and tear owing to no moving parts and hence, they do not require any maintenance throughout the entire tenure. While buying, you must ensure you are picking up reliable and genuine equipment from an authentic and certified supplier. Always interrogate about the quality and features and most importantly, the guarantee.

6. A good battery is a must

A solar power installation has four components: solar panels, charge controller (to convert DC to AC), battery charger (for storage) and the actual equipment. All of these put together function the best.

The battery must be from a well-known brand and should be kept in an airy space lest it gets heated and loses its long life.
