Is New Mutants Set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

by Peter Anderson Writer

Is the New Mutants movie set in the Fox studio or MCU? It is one of the most asked questions by the Marvel fans about the new upcoming New Mutants. It was initially decided as a part of Fox studio and X Men franchise, which began in 2000. The Fox universe developed on the next level when Deadpool released. New Mutants movie has been delayed a few times due to several reasons and issues. The studio claims that it happened due to reshoots of several scenes and the decisions to release the Dark Phoenix before New Mutants.

Fox failed to release the movie in the decision, and then they collaborated with Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now it is very confusing what studio or universe is going to have the right on the film MCU or Fox since the movie is shot according to Fox studio and X-Men franchise, but now if they want to set it up in MCU timeline, then they would have to make considerable editing and plot twist in New Mutants.

Currently, the release date is decided for April 3, 2020, and a new trailer has dropped just a few days back. According to the new trailer, the movie will feature the story of the world when nobody knows about the mutants or metahumans. This new storyline is totally different from what the X-Men franchise introduces in its where the mutants become political issues and threats to humanity. As the movie is now different from the X-Men and Fox storyline, but presently it is not set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In the new promotional clip, you will be able to see the clear logo of Fox at the beginning and the ending of the trailer. The Fox sold its Marvel rights to Disney means it should have been settled in the MCU, sadly that's not the case. Judged by the new trailer, no credits are announced for Marvel studios, even though they are technically the owner of the Marvel characters. Maybe it can be mentioned in the Disney-Fox deal that New Mutants credits will go to Fox studio as they have done the hard work in the movie. The new clip's credit goes to one of the Fox producers, but there is no Marvel producer name in the credits.

If the trailer would have shown the credits for Marvel studio, then it could have triggered several rights issues since many outside creatives designed the characters. Moreover, it is tough to establish mutants into the MCU storyline, especially on this occasion, when there was no prior planning was made by either side. The chances and scopes for adding mutants into the MCU are too least. It could have been a bad idea to put them into the Marvel timeline at this spot where many Marvel movies are already planned for phase 5, and Black Widow is already done. It could have disturbed all movies that are going to release in the future.

Since the Fox and Disney deal completed, fans are no longer interested in the Fox X-Men franchise, but they want to see their Fox fantasies stepping into the MCU. It is safe to say that this movie will not be related to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
