IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL WORTH IT?

by Daniel Hardman Professional surgeon based in San Diego,

Let's be clear about one thing before discussing laser hair removal: it is entirely up to you what you do with the hair on your pits and parts. It's fantastic if you prefer to let it bloom haphazardly. You are free to blast some or all of it away if you'd rather keep it smooth.

May find it tedious to remove body hair monthly, weekly, or occasionally daily. Anyone who has ever experienced a shaving rash knows how unsightly it is, and routine waxing can be both unpleasant and expensive. All this for, at most, a week's worth of somewhat smooth skin?

As a more effective and long-lasting alternative, consider laser hair removal. Due to the nature of lasers, it should go without saying that it is ideal to have treatment from a licensed professional. A laser is delivered directly to the root of your hair during the in-office procedure to work. Your hair's pigment (color) draws the laser light to it. The light transforms into heat when it strikes the right growth stage, killing the active hair follicles and stopping further growth.

1. Results take time to manifest

In order for the laser to have the highest chance of zapping the hair follicle, it is crucial to capture the hair at the proper stage of growth. Young LDN advises 6-8 week intervals for your body and 4-6 week intervals for your face, depending on how stubborn your hair is. Six treatments are often needed over a span of time for long-term hair removal. Therefore, it will take at least eight months to complete. It's important to keep in mind that regions containing hormone receptors, such as the groin, can necessitate a few additional treatments. After the second treatment, we really noticed a difference. The third and fourth treatments were a little spotty and stubbly, but by the fifth, it was as smooth as a dolphin.

2. It actually moves fairly quickly.

The actual treatment time is quite short; we were in and out in under 25 minutes for a bikini and underarm treatment in one visit.

3. The pain isn't too bad

Since pain is so subjective, this issue is never easy to answer. Young LDN's aesthetic specialists are highly helpful and constantly inquire about your pain on a scale of 1 to 10. The laser's intensity is then changed to make the person more comfortable. You will have a considerably more comfortable experience than with IPL thanks to the machine's built-in cryo-cooling and Zimmer cooling system. For me, the discomfort was tolerable—no worse than a typical waxing—and unquestionably less agonizing than having your eyebrows plucked. You can get a mild sunburn-like sensation after the treatment, but this is completely natural.

4. Winter is the best time of year for laser

As they are less likely to be exposed to the sun, we advise receiving treatment for legs and arms in the winter. Real and fake tanning can have an impact on how you are treated. While undergoing a laser hair removal course, exposure to sunlight can harm your skin since the laser can target the pigment in the skin rather than the hair. This means that if the area has been exposed to sunlight up to four weeks before treatment, it cannot be treated. Before your treatment, any fake tan will need to fade or be scrubbed off because the color can get into the hair follicle and prevent the laser from capturing the natural pigment in your hair. Your aesthetician can give you skincare and SPF recommendations.
