Is D.Pharm Difficult?

D. Pharmacy is not a difficult course. It is an entry-level course for pharmacy aspirants. Students searching for a quick initiate as a career in the pharmacy field one can opt D.Pharm course. It is a 2 - year full-time diploma course approved by the Board of Technical Education (BTE). 

D. Pharm course provides the fundamental knowledge of pharmacy which includes theoretical and practical learning of subjects like hospital pharmacy, clinical pharmacy, human anatomy, pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical chemistry, drug store & business management. These subjects are quick to learn as the course curriculum is much easier than other advanced pharmacy courses.

A diploma in pharmacy entitles one to attain a license for a registered pharmacist. A registered pharmacist is the only one who is allowed to open a hospital pharmacy and retail pharmacy. Within two years a D. Pharma student can start his/her career. Diploma in Pharmacy course is not limited to just opening a pharmacy store but a diploma student can start a career by doing a professional job in a pharmaceutical industry.

D. Pharm admission process is quite simple. There are many pharmacy private colleges that offer candidates to take direct admission in the diploma course, whereas, many universities/colleges conduct entrance exams for students to compete to pursue Diploma.

The entrance exam can be either in the form of a state-level entrance exam or university/colleges can conduct their own.


Following are some of the entrances tests in Delhi-NCR which require qualifying for admission into the course:

  1. Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Examination (UPSEE)

  2. Delhi Common Entrance Test (Delhi CET)


The basic eligibility criterion for pursuing the course is a 10+2 or equivalent qualification in the science stream from a recognized educational board. Diploma in pharmacy is based on the student’s performance in a relevant entrance exam or merit obtained in the last qualifying exam. 

The average course fees for the diploma in pharmacy are INR 45,000 to 1, 00,000 per annum. 


Diploma in the Pharmacy course acts as a gateway for an aspirant who wishes to continue their study in pharmacy. Students can take direct admission in B.Pharm 2nd year as a lateral entry.
