Is Catering Worth The Money?

by Jeffery Casner catering

Are you planning a special event soon? It could be an upcoming wedding or perhaps a family reunion. Planning events are one of the most stressful times, especially if you aren’t the party-throwing type. There are so many things you have to do, from reserving the venue to picking out entertainment. But what really pulls an event together is the food.

In the United States, we gather around food. Family functions are the times you get together and share traditional dishes, laugh, and have a good time. The food of some type accompanies almost any kind of function. Because this is a pivotal role in most events, one has to wonder if having catering is the best option.

Are you wanting to worry about transporting dishes to the event or having to cook on-site? One reason many choose to have a party catered is so they can actually enjoy the party. If, for example, you wanted to have a barbeque, you would spend almost the entire time in front of the grill. This doesn’t give the griller any time to socialize really because they are far too focused on not burning things. To free up time, catering can be a lifesaver.

Perhaps the pitfall of having catering is the cost. Is it worth the money? It’s true. You will pay a premium on having food prepared and brought to your location. You are paying for the ingredients, and the time it takes to cook, in addition to people who arrive to serve you and your guests. But if you consider what you get versus what you don’t have to do, it can be well worth the money.

Catering costs are usually based on the headcount, or number of guests attending. This means you will need to have people RSVP well in advance to give this number to the catering company. If you don’t have an exact amount, this could cost you. The goal is to have an accurate count as possible, so you will want to request your guests to RSVP at least a few weeks before the date of the event. Speak to the catering person you are thinking of using to find out when they need the number to ensure you don’t overpay for guests that won’t show up.

So is catering worth the money? For most people, it most certainly is. Catering takes the hassle out of feeding your guests, the need to cook while giving your guests something to talk about. If you are considering using a new restaurant or company you’ve never worked with, consider having a tasting before the big day.
