IoT driven logistics platform automated the entire process for fleet operators

Most logistics customers' first target is to make their process automated. The whole process automation includes four principal business concerns: real-time tracking & monitoring of vehicles, predicting demand, and optimization of vehicle requirements, and predicting vehicle failures. 

With the existing systems, they had no means to track their fleet of vehicles in real-time. It also lacked capabilities to track vehicle idling & fuel usage trends to optimize fuel consumption, making it impossible to set up a cost-effective fleet optimization engine. Unexpected failure/breakdown of vehicles resulted in an enormous loss of in-vehicle productivity and maintenance costs and was time-consuming.

Inovar extends their hand of cooperation with SaaS solution. We gave fleet operators ways to predict demand, optimize vehicle usage and improve real-time tracking from both fleet operators' and consumers' perspectives. 

First, we addressed their issues smartly with an efficient fleet management solution that utilizes diagnostic data of vehicles and drivers. The data was obtained from GPS-enabled devices within the carriers. The data collected was the vehicle speed, engine coolant temperature, RPM, trip mileage, hard acceleration/brake, and engine idle time. 

By analyzing the collected data, a complete picture of real-time operations was made available. These insights helped them select the most appropriate route, maximize uptime, control costs, and reduce fuel; thereby boosting productivity, increasing operational efficiency, and optimizing fleet.

Other than the fleet-related challenges, our customer is interested in restructuring their entire ecosystem with automating process solutions to develop a one-stop destination for all logistics requirements. Their vision was to bring in all stakeholders, including APMC Markets, Warehouses, SMB, Traders, Custom Clearance Agents, Ports, and Truckers approaching a single virtual platform. This will provide transparency and create an open marketplace for people to freely trade on demand.

Inovar with its team of architects was engaged to find out the best solution which can be provided in this scenario. We proposed a Microsoft Azure-based system that utilized several services, such as IoT Hub, Event Grid, Databricks for Cold path analysis, and PowerBI for Hot path analysis. Additionally, we custom-built a microservices-based platform that could handle all the requirements around onboarding, Marketplace, consignment booking, etc. 

For the optimizing algorithm to manage vehicle supplies we used Databricks to calculate and assign vehicles which will give us the fastest turnaround time reduce the number of vehicles required. The system went live with 1000 vehicles and was able to showcase a 30% operating efficiency with three months of the launch.
