introduction to axial flow fans

Axial flow fan is a type of compressor unit which does the work of increasing the pressure of the air flowing through it. The air is forced to move with the help of the blades of an axial flow fan. The air is forced to move parallel to the shaft on which the blades rotate. We can state in other words that the flow of air is axially in and axially out that too linearly. All of the elements of a axial flow fan revolves around the central propeller that creates the pressure to be imparted into the gas or air. The no of blades in an axial flow fan is very less than the ducted fans or centrifugal fans. Here the no of blades vary from 2 to 6. Due to the use of less no of blades the geometry of a axial flow fan is very different and they are unable to influence the geometry of flow. The main reason for the less no of blades in the design is that the fan operates in a very high speed and more no of blades would hinder its operation in that speed. Again due to less no of blades the inlet and outlet velocity triangles become meaningless.
