Introducing the Best-Selling Electric Hatchback – the Nissan Leaf

by Masashi S. JDM Enthusiast

The Nissan Leaf is a 5-door all-electric compact hatchback first introduced in 2010 with its second generation which was released in 2018. In 2019, the Leaf was recognized as an all-time top-selling plug-in electric car.

Interior & Exterior

The Leaf interior is comfortable with enough space at the back seat and pleasant to drive. The aerodynamics has been improved with its weight reduction, a new regenerative braking system, and much improved suspensions for stability. The standard features included steering-wheel audio controls, climate control, Bluetooth, adjustable steering height, height-adjustable driver seat, electric power windows, and keyless start and go.

The standard features of the Nissan Leaf 2018 consisted of a 7.0-inch display screen, SiriusXM satellite radio, hands-free text messaging, Bluetooth, and automatic headlights. While the SV trim is fitted with NissanConnectEV telematics services, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, DC fast-charging port, fog lights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and alloy wheels.

Specifications

The Leaf was equipped with a new 30 kWh battery with 160000 km (100000 miles). It has an SAE J1772 connector for charging on the 120/220 volts AC main and can be charged which recovers 8 km (5 miles). Other models have a CHAdeMO port that can fill 80% of a fully discharged battery in 30 minutes but it shortens a battery’s life span. The Leaf Plus was launched in 2019 with a larger 62 kWh battery delivering 364 km (226 miles) and a new 150 kW motor that can use the 100 kW CHAdeMO chargers.

The Leaf is powered by a 40 kWh battery producing 110 KW (147 HP) delivering 243 km as per EPA ratings without charging. Coupled with a 6.6 kW SAE J1772 regular plug connector or the 50 kW CHAdeMO for fast charging. The Leaf offers a front-mounted electric motor with 80 KW (107 HP) attached to a 24 kWh lithium-ion battery delivering 0-100 kph in 9.9 seconds with a top speed of 150 km/h. It is also powered by CarWings and telematics providing remote control functions via smartphone or computer for the driver.

Features

The Leaf has new innovative driving technologies, which offer only two trim levels: The ProPILOT advanced driver assistance system that can be used while driving on a single lane making the drive more relaxing and easier. The ProPILOT Park technology takes control of the steering, braking, gear selection, and guides the car into a parking slot. And the e-Pedal technology can be used to start and stop the car as well as accelerate and decelerate.

Finally

The Nissan Leaf is a full Electric vehicle that is considered to be environmentally friendly and still offers a fun and comfortable driving experience. It also has an exquisite design and can be used for cruising the city though not good for a long-distance trip. You can check the Nissan Leaf stocklist on how to purchase one now.
