Similarly, the education system in Australia has also changed in the last few years. Especially after the introduction of NAPLAN in the year 2008, the education system for the students in years 3, 5, 7, and 9 has become far better and progressive. NAPLAN is a series of test which tests a student’s achievement and understanding in reading, writing, spelling, numeracy, grammar, and punctuation.

With the results based on the NAPLAN test, schools are informed about how their students are achieving in particular subjects. This ultimately helps the schools to make changes in their way of teaching and guiding the students.

What Is The Role Of NAPLAN?

It is not a test in which a student has to pass or fail. NAPLAN provides a point of comparison and a band of scale which highlights a student’s position and capabilities in numeracy and literacy. When the results of NAPLAN are released, an individual report measures the performance of students against an assessment scale. This scale is broken into bands and students in Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 receive a report and the band they have achieved in each test that they sat for. However, for each of the years tested, not all scales are shown. For instance, only bands 5 to 10 are shown for Year 9. A national minimum standard is set at each of the year levels tested for Year 9, and this is band 6. Each higher band shows the increase in difficulty and it requires a more refined demonstration of skills.
