Interesting facts about galvanized steel you should know

by Ankita Sehgal Freelance Blogger, Lives in New Delhi
The steel used in building a structure or for making some kind of art outdoors is always galvanized so that it stays protected from elements that may corrode it over time. Experienced steel suppliers like JSW always provide galvanized steel or roofing sheet for all purposes. Further, the products and ppgl sheet prices are very reasonable as well.
Steel is very commonly used in the construction industry for various like corrosion resistance, durability, sturdiness, etc. However, besides its features, manufacturing steel helps in cutting down on waste materials as recyclable products are often used in the process. According to a survey, two-thirds of new steel produced globally comes from recycled steel and byproducts. This is not the only interesting fact about steel. It is used in the manufacturing of various products and interesting tidbits and especially galvanized steel. Mentioned below are a few interesting facts about galvanized steel:

Galvanization Involves Zinc

Galvanized steel stays protected because it has an added layer of zinc coating. This is because, once zinc is coated on steel, it acts as a barrier between the metal and atmosphere and keeps the metal safe. Further, zinc provides cathodic protection.

Galvanization Is Named After a Scientist

The term Galvanized is used because of the scientist who specialized it. Italian scientist Luigi Galvani studied it and any number of electrochemical processes that were Galvaniā€™s specialty are named similarly.

Galvanizing has Evolved Over the Years

Previously, galvanization was electrochemical. However, in modern times, it is considered more of an electro-deposition term. In this process, zinc is the main item that is used. As the technology evolved, various new advancements have been made so that metal can stay protected from all elements that can corrode it.

Galvanizing Is Low-Cost

The reason why galvanizing stainless steel is so common across all industries is because of the low initial cost and very little maintenance requirement throughout its lifetime. Further, the ease of application makes the item very appealing to all-steel suppliers. The huge amount of money spent for protection from corrosion and rust can now be saved.

Commonly used in the automobile industry

Galvanized steel is very common in various s applications. The biggest consumer of galvanized steel in India is the huge automobile sector. Galvanized steel helps in improving the corrosion resistance of the cars and keeps them in top-notch condition. The reason why rust does not appear in cars is that galvanized steel is used to keep it protected and safe.
