Of course you are not sure whether you will have a boy or a girl, so you make up for the sweet uncertainty by preparing a good name for each of them. It was found that when parents look for non-gender specific names that are universal, they choose to give girls more of boyish names than giving boys the girl names. The reason may not be specifically known but the trend is interesting to note!
Also, it was revealed by a study that in case of boys, people find the names more attractive if the names are monosyllabic. For the girls, the more attractive and appealing names are found to be longer and at least bi-syllabic. Thus for boys over ‘Mathew’, ‘Matt’ is preferred over ‘Mathew’, while for girls, it would be ‘Angelina’ that would be far more attractive than simply ‘Ann’.
Also it was noted that for boys, the stress on the first vowel makes it more appealing a name while for girls, it is the second vowel. Thus, for a ‘George’, the stress would be on ‘e’, while for a ‘Victoria’, it would be on ‘o’. These are interesting facts, and there are many more.
