Here is brief guide stating how you can perform DIY installation of an electric within tile floor. Please go through all steps carefully before proceeding with your project.

Do you have a large living space with tile flooring and want a power source in the middle of it so that you won’t need to continuously shift your vacuum cleaner from one wall outlet to another while cleaning the entire room? Well, in that case, nothing can be a better option than a watertight floor box. It’s quite easy to buy one from a reputed online store in UK dealing with cable grommets & electric floor boxes.

However, after buying a suitable product would come the part where you must install it appropriately. So here is a simple step-by-step guide that you can follow in order to conduct a DIY installation:

First of all, clear out all furniture items from the space where you to want fit in the floor box. After that, mark the spot with construction crayon.

Next, mark the tiles row that requires to be cut, by sticking duct tape on both sides of the row for protecting the adjacent tiles. Then cut on the sides of every tile through the grout using stone cutter and rotary cutting equipment.

Wedge the tiles up one by one with pry bar gently, and carve a shallow trench with an electric jackhammer using the dimensions of the floor box (increase the measurements by 1 unit). You can get the equipment from any local hardware store, but don’t forget to put on proper safety gear while handling it. Remove the debris with a vacuum.

Turn off the power source that you wish to use in order to draw electricity for the floor outlet, and test it with a voltmeter. Now, with a chisel and hammer, remove the direct floor moulding beneath the box.

Connect the outlet box to the power source by following the right steps. If you don’t know how to, then take help from someone who does.

Once the box has been securely placed in the trench, turn on the power and check the connection. Then deactivate the power again.

Finally, cover the floor box with plastic sheeting and fill around the outlet with concrete. Let the wet concrete dry according to manufacturer’s instructions.

Use adhesive grout and replacement tiles to restore the spot.

That’s it! Now you can use the electric floor box for drawing power from the centre of your living room without any hassle. In order to prevent dust and dirt from accumulating in the outlet, make sure that you secure its lid when the box is not being used.
