Indian clothes that are popular all over the world

Indian wear is one such ethnic clothing adorned by men and women worldwide for its elegant look, vibrant shades, and unique designs. Indian traditional dresses ensure that the person stays relaxed and comfortable, yet makes a fashion statement wherever they go. Some of the Indian clothes that are popular all over the world are:


  1. Indian saree: A long piece of cloth ranging from six yards to nine yards, the Indian saree can be draped in different styles making it versatile and easy for all body shapes and sizes to adorn it.

  2. Salwar Kameez: Generally a three-piece set, salwar suits for women consists of loose-fitting pant which is the salwar, a long tunic/top which is the kameez, and a dupatta which is like a long scarf worn with the salwar suit set.

  3. Lehenga Choli: This Lehenga Choli again is a three-piece set, but it comes with a choli similar to the saree blouse, a long flared skirt as the lehenga, and a dupatta to complete the stylish appeal.

  4. Anarkali Suits: One of the traditional salwar kameez styles, Anarkali dresses are the long and flowy frock. The name comes from Anarkali, a legendary dancer in the Mughal times. Since then, Anarkali gowns have been famous for their grace and elegance.

  5. Kurta Pajama: A two-piece set, Kurta Pajama for men is a classic choice for any gathering. It comes with a long tunic which is the kurta and a straight cut pant which is the pajama.

  6. Nehru Jacket: Similar to a waistcoat, it is popular as a formal wear after the Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, adorned it as his signature look. It is generally worn over a kurta pajama but men do style it with denim for an Indo-western look.

  7. Men’s sherwani: You can also call it a groom’s sherwani, as this formal outfit for men is worn at weddings and special occasions and by almost all the grooms. It is a long coat-like attire worn with a kurta pajama. Men also pair it with churidar, dhoti, and other pant styles.

  8. Bandhgala suit: Famous as the Jodhpuri suit, this was introduced by Maharaja Pratap Singh of Jodhpur and was actually a wardrobe malfunction, where his luggage went missing in England and he needed an Indian attire but with a Western influence urgently. Thus came the signature Indo-western wear for men.


Every Indian ethnic wear has a different identity and is special in itself. They have an origin story adding a cultural significance to every attire that is stitched to perfection from Panash India. With its versatility and quick way to dress elegance, Indian clothes are not just famous in India and the Indian diaspora but are also adorned by fashion enthusiasts worldwide.
