Collect Ideas

Check out Halloween face painting ideas. Compile the ones that you love best into a folder. Take snapshots of the details you particularly like. You’ll use these are references, so it’s a good idea to look for a lot. When you have enough, then you can pick out which of those details or looks appeal to you the most. Then you can research on the tutorials and how-to guides for those faces.

Have Your Tools Ready

Once you know what look you’re aiming for, you can start shopping around for face paints. There are kits that offer a slew of colors and tools for beginners. But they might not contain all the shades you need. However, you could buy a kit and then a few tubs of the colors or shades that you need. That will make it easier for you to test out a lot of colors instead of buying a tub for each shade.

Experiment with the Looks

Don’t be afraid to put your own spin on the designs. Experiment by adding certain details to the design. That’s one way to personalize those looks. Play with the usual face paint ideas by coming up with different approaches. For instance, go for a baby zombie or a dragon fairy. What about a cat vampire? By mixing and creating looks, you can come up with something unique and special for Halloween.

Use a Sponge

Brushes are often used for the tiny details. However, when you need to cover a huge expanse of skin and you need it done right away, you’ll want to use a sponge instead. This is an easy way to apply the color to your skin. It’s much faster than a brush. You’ll want to have several sponges clean and ready before you start a session. That way, you can use a different one for every shade. Just wash and clean the sponges later.

Play with Glitter

Halloween doesn’t automatically mean that you can choose scary face designs. What about a cute werewolf or smiling skeleton? You could play with glitter to make those cute face designs. This is sure to be a hit with kids, too. If you have nieces and nephews coming over, then you’ll want to give this a try.

Get the Right Paints

Are you doing face paint designs for adults or kids? If you're doing sessions for kids, you need to have paints that are specially made for their skin. Even if you use paints that are meant for adults with sensitive skin, some of those options might still result in rashes or skin irritation. Be sure to stock up on face paints that are meant for kids, too. That way, you won’t have to worry about them getting breakouts.
