How’s the WIND ?

The statistics:

In Abu Dhabi , the wind is good enough for kiting around 15 to 20 days per month, with Spring and Fall being the best periods.

During spring and fall you can expect light to medium wind conditions, with 10 to 20 knots wind. Most riders in Abu Dhabi are using 12m to 17m kites, and ladies riders 10 to 14m kites. Conditions are light compared to windy destinations but the wind is very clean in Abu Dhabi and not very gusty. Also, you can expect the wind to keep the same direction (or almost) all day long.

in Abu Dhabi , the wind usually picks up around mid day (12pm to 2pm) and stays until sunset at 7pm, but dont expect wind in the mornings, it’s rare.

During spring and fall, the temperature are very confortable both in and out of the water. You dont really need a wetsuit specially going in to summer, when the temperatures start rising above 30 C degree. Water temperature is around 25 to 35 C degree.

Regarding the way people dresses in Abu Dhabi, most people are only wearing their swimming shorts and a lycra, and bikinis for ladies. Shoes are a good idea as there are shelves and rocks on the ground. Abu Dhabi is a liberal city, bikinis are fully allowed on the beach

This is a funny picture, and NO this is not how we kite in Abu Dhabi  !!!

Now how about Winter and Summer? We see some very good days with stronger wind and flat water as well.

The only thing you need to know is:

Winter (december to March) is COLD in Abu Dhabi, of course we don’t have snow yet, but the wind is cold and water is fresh, so you should expect to wear a full or semi wetsuit (3/4 mm) when you go riding. Also bring some warm clothes for the after the ride. KSD will provide the wetsuits if you dont have yours.

Summer (July to September) is HOT in Abu Dhabi. Of course, being on the beach is always better than in town as the wind cools you down. However, we suggest you bring couple of cold water bottles with you and don’t forget your hat and sun cream. Wind is up all summer and our instructors will be happy to give lessons during that period.

So as you understood by now, we kite EVERY day in Abu Dhabi, as soon as the wind picks up!!

BEACH CONDITIONS:

At the moment, we have only one beach available for kitesurfers in Abu Dhabi, based on Yas island. It’s a very large spot, plenty of space for riders to enjoy the flat water.

The spot is good for beginners to advance riders.

Not much activity around the spot so bring your own food and drinks.
