Ignorance to Racism
Campaign against Racism
Stop Racism Now, We are in the 21st century People:
Yes, I am a black, yes I am a Ghanaian, yes I am an African and yes I am 200% proud of it! 75% of blacks and people of a different race are ashamed of their roots. Why is it so? I find that silly and disturbing, your roots are part of you being a different colour is the best thing that could happen to you, it means you are unique, special and independent. 25% of blacks and people of a different race who are not ashamed of their roots are however not confident enough to stand up and show their pride of being black. Being different to me means that I am something others can’t be. Being black to me means that I have an awesome complexion, to me it means I am easy to spot, I am not a pale shadow, you simply can’t avoid noticing me which even though can sometimes be bad, it has awesome benefits. There are whites everywhere who notice people being racist however they are too afraid to stand up against it just because of ‘cool’ and ‘popular’ sake!
Sometimes it is the people who are fed up with their dull, nonexistent fantasy life who put their anger on easy targets. Blacks! What is so wrong with being a black? There is absolutely nothing wrong with being white so why waste valuable time making a big deal and fuss over people with a different skin tone? Yes they are not from England but that doesn’t mean they don’t belong! Over 52.75% of them didn’t chose to come to Europe or white countries. There are circumstances that lead them here. 40% out of the 52.75% move here because of; struggling in their countries however some come to developed countries because the government needs highly qualified skilled workers.
My friends father who works in Ghana was called from England to work there however he refused, he was even offered a higher pay than what he was being paid yet he still blatantly said No! This goes to show that even the developed countries need working class people. Instead of asking their own people they ask foreigners who they later throw racist comments towards. There are people who are racist to foreigners because the foreigners seem to get the good jobs while they are working in low paying jobs, receiving benefits and aid from the government etc and they are also racist to foreigners because they are afraid of the blacks. Going back to the England issue, what the job institution was offering [Well I don’t know about you but I call it bribery (i.e. offering a higher pay). That is corruption! Yet people say ‘Africa is poor mostly because of corruption. Because of this, people use this to insult Africans. Every country has corruption (even beloved England).
This leads me to one of the main causes of poverty in Africa: colonization. ‘How can anyone claim Africa did not have peace societies before the arrival of colonialism?’ Political, economic and social structures existed in African society well before the 19th century. A man know us Frederic Caillaurd during his quest to discover the source of the Nile, marvelled at the structure of the Egyptian society. Massive empires existed in Zimbabwe and Zululand (naming 2) and were crushed by the land grab of the colonial empires in the 19th century! What caused Africa’s underdevelopment is a complex issue…
Europe’s past (and present) exploitation of Africa played a significant part. Before the Europeans arrived in Africa, Africa had vibrant economic, political and social structures.
These were mostly disrupted by Europeans to create wealth for themselves and Americans as well which is what has made them highly developed. So,what do you think of blacks now?People assume that the blacks in Britain are poor just because of the little information they have been fed. On TV, we are shown people talking about helping people in Africa so you assume that every black is poor and suffering. Is Africa a country/continent? If I were to ask you this over 50% will say it is a country. Well the over 50% are actually wrong! By thinking that Africa is a country is a discrete form of racism. It shows disrespect to someones continent. By identifying Africa as a country you are displaying yourself as an uneducated, unliterate, literate however, by identifying Africa as a continent, you kill 2 birds with 1 stone. To clarify, you make your self literate as well as stopping a form of racism which you never realised.
Now, a little geography lesson: Africa is the second biggest continent, it is bigger than the land masses of the UK, USa, China, India, Mexico, Peru, France, Spain, Papua New Guinea, Sweden, Japan, Germany, Norway, Italy, New Zealand, Nepal, Bangladesh, Greece, Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland put together. If this is true, which it obviously is since I found it out myself, then even a non-Albert Einstein will now be able to understand that ALL of Africa is not poor, it just has more poor countries than other continents. Infact there a rich and resourceful countries on the verge of being known as developed in Africa including my beloved home; Ghana. To sum up, everyone continent has undeveloped countries and aspects. The difference between these continents is that they have different ways/ better ways of dealing with it. For example; the UK’s government provides the suffering and disadvantaged with estate homes, benefits & basic school necessities for the kids.
I believe that everyone should be treated equally no matter their colour/social status/class. I don’t treat people from a lower class differently or kids from a broken home differently yet it is usually those type of kids who are racist to me. If you know people that are constantly bullied because of their colour, let them know you care, let them know you’re not a coward, let them know that there are still goods in this chapter that we live in. A way of letting them know is by telling them of the EU law which gives the a right to file a lawsuit against racist bullies. If you want to make a mark of the world, if you want to make the world a better place then start by being NICE. Just that 4 letter word can make a difference.
I try to be NICE but I can’t keep up being NICE to you and everyone else if you don’t show me eye-for-an-eye. Yes, I am a black, yes I am a Ghanaian, yes I am an African and yes I am 200% proud of it!
