FSSAI or Food
Safety and Standard Authority of India are an autonomous body that comes under
the The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. It got its
recognition under the Food Safety and Standard Act, 2006. FSSAI aims to protect
public health. Each and every person, involved in food business, is it a
manufacturer, importer, exporter, trader or any other food business operator is
under compulsion to get the 14 digit FSSAI number that shall be printed on the
food package prior to its distribution in market.
So, if you are
thinking of starting a food business, you must get the food license that is
given by FSSAI. Nobody can start the food business in India prior to obtaining FSSAI License
Consultant. Necessary steps have been taken by the authority to ensure the
food manufactured, imported and sold is safe for consumers. This in turn helps in reducing adulteration and food contamination.
Basically, there
are three major types of food license depending on the annual turnover and the
business location as mentioned below:-
• Registration: When the annual turnover
is less than INR 12 lakhs then it is required to obtain basic Registration for
starting the business.
• FSSAI state license: When the annual
turnover of the business is more than 12lakhs but less than 20 crores and the premise
is only in a particular state then it is required to obtain FSSAI State License.
• FSSAI Central License: When the annual
turnover is more than INR20 crores and it is operated in more than one states,
then it is needed to obtain FSSAI central
license.
How to get the required food license?
For obtaining FSSAI
Registration, one must have an active phone number and an Email ID shall submit Form ‘A’ to the Authority. FBO has to fill all details correctly in the
form as it will appear on the issued Registration copy. Fees for Registration
are Rs. 100.

License
Every food
business operator who wants to carry out business in more than one state shall submit
to FSSAI in form ‘B’. The document supporting must be attached as
self-declaration and the food product must be approved and should fall under
FSS act, 2006. form ‘B’ can be submitted
to the central authority online at the portal or offline. As per the need, the license can be
applied for a period of one to five years after which renewal is required.
However, the process can be made easier by hiring an FSSAI license consultant.
FSSAI State License
After checking
the eligibility State License can also be applied in form’s’ and the process is
almost similar to obtaining Central License.
Nowadays every
person is highly health conscious and prefers
to have premium quality food that has been approved by FSSAI. Therefore, it is
mandatory for every food business operator to obtain the license that will
